American Institute of Architects – History, Leadership, and Contributions

Mr. Robert Ivy is working at The American Institute of Architects s the Chief executive officer and Executive Vice President of the establishment. He is well-known editor and contributor to architectural journals and magazines with more than 20 years of professional experience in the field.

Mr. Robert Ivy is from Columbus, Mississippi. He obtained a master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Tulane after receiving his bachelor’s in English from the Sewanee University. Mr. Robert Ivy then went into the publishing industry. He started working at the publishing of McGaw Hill Construction. After that Ivy became the Editor in Chief of the growing company of Architectural Record. The company owned as many s 33 publications going out periodically in digital and oriented formats. Ivy occupied his leading position t the company until 2010 when he started working at The American Institute of Architects.

Over the course of his career, Ivy has received recognition several times. He received the G. D. Crain Award in 2009 for his contributions to the editorial business and media. A year later, Robert Ivy s named Master Architect by the Alph Rho Chi.

The American Institute of Architects was founded back in 1857. The 13 architects who create the AIA managed to instill laws in the country regarding the profession. That changed the course of the history of the profession and for the first time, people claiming to b architects had to prove it with a document from corresponding institutions. The founders of The American Institute of Architects had other goals as well such as making more people interested in taking up architecture, educating them in the skill, and earning the profession the prestigious regard it deserved.  Visit at to know more.

In only a couple of years, the profession of an architect had changed drastically. Many prominent experts in the field joined The American Institute of Architects and its efforts. After that, the initiative took off fast and spread widely across the United States of America. The AIA started to receive hundreds of requests from professionals in distant states to be accepted to The American Institute of Architects and receive their education and other resources.

The first chapter that The American Institute of Architects opened was in New York City in 1867. After that, chapters started popping up across the whole country in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and many others. Up to date, The American Institute of Architects has chapters in more than 260 cities in the United States in America as well as overseas. There are nearly 90 000 members in the AIA.
